At 4:30 A.M., my alarm would ring. The same thing happened to my friends. The temperature at this point in the morning was well below freezing, and barely any cars were on the road. I walked out of my front door; knowing that I was going to be outside for the next 10 hours, freezing, and I couldn't wait.
Normally this situation would be a horrible thing, but this day was Sunday, and later in the day we knew we would be watching what seems to be just a game to most. But in Pittsburgh, it is a time of the week where just about every single person in this great city stops what they are doing, puts their differences aside, grabs their Terrible Towels, and watch. They watch a game that involves a team that is the culture of a city. The Pittsburgh Steelers are a phenomenon.
Many times we would arrive at the parking lot at 5 A.M., with about 40 other people who would wait on the street until the lots opened. The anticipation is amazing. The tailgating follows, and then the main attraction. By the end of the day, we were tired, freezing, sometimes sick from the cold. And it was all worth it.
Steelers Sunday is a weekly holiday, and being part of that holiday, whether you are at the game or at home, is something that you can only feel if you are a Pittsburgher.
Since the days of tailgating about 5 years back, my friends and I have always wanted to show our love for this city and share it with the other Pittsburgh fans around the world. We have family and friends in all parts of the country: Philly, St. Louis, New York, Baltimore, California. It doesn't matter. They hold their head high knowing they are part of a culture that extends beyond Western Pennsylvania. I witnessed the passion of Pittsburgh first hand and really found that there are no boundaries when the Steelers fight song was played at a bar in Cleveland.
We decided years ago we wanted to create a website dedicated to bringing all these people together. We wanted to create a community for Pittsburghers around the world to share their favorite Pittsburgh moments and keep in touch. This is it.
Welcome to WorldWidePittsburgh.com.
Our goal is simple: create a community. We want to bring together residents of Pittsburgh, transplanted Pittsburghers around the country, and around the world, old Pittsburgh fans, new Pittsburgh fans, other Pittsburgh-related websites, and anyone else with any Pittsburgh blood. Right now we have a basic site; a section where we will post stories and articles, and a message board community for all Pittsburghers to join. Our plans include some unique ideas to make this an interesting and entertaining site. Please join the community and starting using the message board!
Thank you for visiting and please let us know of any ideas you may have for this site. You can contact us here.
